SPLIT CUSTODY
Thank you to Jessica Haines for use of this image for the challenge.
Again, I am left waiting. It’s the third time someone forgot to pick me up at school this month. Mom will blame Dad and Dad will blame Mom. I blame them both. I was not given a say. Living half my life with one and half with another. Which also means all of my life without someone.
They say it will get better. They say they just have to work out a better schedule. Ever since the separation I am told just give it time and the kinks will get worked out. But I know better. This is the new norm. I am done waiting. I’ll just walk.
It’s always the kids that are damaged the most. Captured the voice really well. Well done.

So sad! He is so right about being so torn up over his parents separation. It does hurt the kids the most. Great story! Welcome to the FFfAW challenge! We are happy you have joined us and I am happy that your link worked! 🙂

My son is divorced and his two kids spend one week with Mom, Nana, and Papa, and the next with my son, my wife, and I. It’s not easy.

I am also divorced and it breaks my heart the way the kids are sometimes caught in the middle. There’s a lot of guilt, but I do the best I can for them.

A modern story for modern times. I hope he walked home safely, I often walked home alone but times were so different in my day.

Many can relate to your story. It is so sad what children are faced with when there is a divorce…even one that is not hostile. It is hard enough growing up in a well adjusted family, but when you are split between the two, the child has a greater challenge. I’ve seen the affect it has had on my grandchild and it takes years for them to figure everything out. They can only understand a certain amount when they are young and it can be heartbreaking. Great job on this story. 🙂

Hell yes, I’ll just walk. And keep on walking. I know this kid.
Wow, you’re good, Rachel.

This is such a powerful piece. You’ve captured the thoughts of a child perfectly and managed to tug at the heartstrings of the reader. Children are the most innocent and also the ones most hurt by others actions.
